Meet Your Tutor
From Gosport, Hampshire, Myles started studying piano and clarinet at school, and quickly discovered a passion for music making. In the years that followed, Myles began organ lessons with Geoffrey Holroyde (formerly of Coventry Cathedral) and became the organ scholar at Holy Trinity Church, Gosport on the newly restored Handel organ, whilst accompanying various choirs around the town, and getting involved with local art projects.
Moving to Southampton in 2014 to read French and Music, Myles began working freelance in the city, playing for St. Deny's and St. Barnabas Church, and started teaching piano and music theory. He moved to France as part of the Erasmus Project in 2017. Whilst there, he was tutored by Pierre Georgeault at La Cathédrale de Rennes, whilst co-directing and accompanying the university mixed and all-female choirs and specialising in piano pedagogy and medieval musicology. Upon his return, Myles became the Michael James Organ Scholar at Romsey Abbey and the Southampton University Organ Scholar at St. Michael's Church, and started to set up his private tuition studio in earnest.
After graduating, Myles started working for the Southampton Music Service as a peripatetic piano and clarinet teacher, whilst teaching freelance in and around the city. At the age of 22, Myles became the Director of Music at St. James Church West End, and currently sits on the committee for the Winchester and District Association of Organists. He was the Conductor for The Woodside Singers from 2019-2020, and is currently working on a variety of online music projects, including the #Improv365 challenge, and editing together piano concerts and duets.
In January 2022 he stepped down from his directorship at St. James to further expand his private studio (which now sits at a membership of ~60 people of all ages and abilities, and to have more time for performance. Myles is in demand as an educator and performs regularly around Hampshire for a mixture of private functions and concerts, giving workshops and masterclasses to local ensembles, and he is currently working towards a Licentiate from the ABRSM in performance and teaching.
Myles is an active member of the Musician's Union and an avid support of Music for Youth.
In his spare time Myles can be found out on a hike, composing, or probably back at the piano practicing...!
"Being a total beginner to both the piano and reading music, Myles is a real professional and really cares about his students progress. Not only does his teaching style feel very natural, the without fail lesson notes I get each week are incredibly valuable. I’d highly recommend Myles to anyone wanting to learn or progress in piano."
